URL stands for Uniform Resource Locator. A URL is the address of a given unique resource on the Website. It is also called as Web Address. Optimized URLs are important from SEO perspective. Optimized URLs are SEO friendly that tend to be short and keyword-rich.

There are many factors to be considered for creating SEO friendly URLs. Selected best practices for URL optimization are presented below,

1. Include Keyword in URL - URL should contain a keyword for which the page is to be ranked. This inclusion will indicate the Google that “This page is about the mentioned keyword”.

2. Use Hyphens (-) to separate words – This is important for both user readability and SEO. Google recommends using hyphens (-) instead of underscores (_) in URLs as hyphens are treated as spaces between words, while words connected by underscores are regarded as one word.

3. Keep URLs Short - The URL of a web page should be descriptive and brief, as a short URL is quicker to read and type. It is also necessary to use lowercase alphabets, static URLs and avoid using dates or too many folders in the URL structure.
